About this book:
A timely and relevant picture book about the power of community

Finding himself alone and scared in the middle of a storm, a small mouse finds comfort and strength when he sees another boat and is joined by others. They ride out the storm together—close enough to see each other, but not close enough to crash.

In a gentle metaphor for the global pandemic, Adrift is a way to start conversations with young readers about fear, hope and being together even from afar. It was written by award-winning children’s author Heidi E. Y. Stemple while she was in lockdown missing her friends and family. Her beautiful words are brought to life by Anastasia Suvorova, who has won high acclaim for illustrating stories about nature, children, dreams, traveling, magic, hope, and kindness.

Heidi E.Y. Stemple is a second-generation children’s book author who has published more than 30 books including Counting Birds, I Am The Storm, and Not All Princesses Dress In Pink. She usually travels to teach writing and gather with other creative people, but in 2020, when the world shut down, she found herself alone and a bit scared. So, she wrote about it in Adrift. She also made hundreds of masks for educators, created YouTube videos for distance learning, and found new ways to stay connected with her friends and family. Like everyone, she is looking forward to being together again.

Anastasia Suvorova is an award-winning children’s book illustrator. She is the 2018 winner of the Bologna Children’s Book Fair Silent Book Contest. She has illustrated several books for children including, most recently, Shadow by Lucy Christopher. She lives in St. Petersburg, Russia.
